Do you want to work in one of the most diverse and vibrant sectors of the fashion design industry? Our newly defined BA (Hons) Fashion Accessory & Textile Futures degree will provide you with the skills needed to create innovative accessories, textiles, smart materials and wearable technology.
This undergraduate program will uncover your creative individuality and give you a rigorous foundation of both practical and technical digital design techniques. You will be encouraged to push the boundaries of materials and technology, learn how to rework traditional approaches, and understand the cultural aspects of fashion accessory design.

Entry requirements

Students will normally be expected to possess five GCSEs (grade C/level 4 or above) or equivalent (including English) and also to hold at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualification:

2 A levels, grade C or above
4 AS levels, grade C or above
2 vocational A level, grade C or above
Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma
Advanced Diploma, grade C or above
International Baccalaureate, 28 points or above

Course programme

What your course will look like

Year 1

You will have an introduction to fashion accessory design, create your own materials and get an understanding of textile development resulting in a special focus on knit and 3D print.

Term 3 is dedicated to designing and making your very own trainers. And, you will learn how to map your subject and your practice in context of the fashion system ready for year 2.

Year 2

This year focuses on industry and we encourage you to start a creative collaboration with other design disciplines.

During term 1 and 2 elective modules come into play - you can choose the project and specialism you want to focus on.

You will be set an external brief from one of our industry partners – an exciting chance to get real world feedback and understand the market you are about to enter.

This year culminates in your work placement for which we will help you to develop a digital portfolio.

Year 3

This is your chance to shine. In your final year you will develop a unique and exciting concept, create a final collection of accessories focussing on the Ready to wear or the material experience market, and start to promote your work.

This will be accompanied and supported by your research and critical reflection culminating in your dissertation and will help you to plan your future career.

Progression

After graduating you might want to chose to continue on to postgraduate study at Ravensbourne in such exciting programmes as the MA Wearable Futures, MDes Luxury Brand Management Innovation or MDes Service Design Innovation.
