This course has been designed to give students both a practical and theoretical understanding of fashion buying, merchandising, sourcing, product development brand and quality management of the supply chain from concept to consumer.
You will learn about forecasting trends, consumer behaviour, psychographic profiling and what makes people buy. You will gain practical knowledge about the product development process including fabric selection and testing, colour management, quality management and sustainability. You will learn about predicting the trend, planning the range, building the brand then how to protect and promote it.
The course aims to develop your creative skills as well as problem-solving, organisational, planning, promotional and management skills. CAD lessons will facilitate creative presentation while other CAD/CAM management tools will also be experienced in preparation for industry.
You will study through a mix of practice and theory based learning and will benefit from the opportunity to collaborate with students from other disciplines as well as top brands

Entry requirements
Students will normally be expected to possess five GCSEs (grade C/level 4 or above) or equivalent (including English) and also to hold at least one of the below or equivalent UK or international qualifications.

Assessment
You will be continually assessed through written and project work, and in the final year assessment is through dissertation and portfolio.
Year 1
You will build fundamental skills in fashion forecasting, buying from concept to consumer, brand buying, management and promotion. You will be taught digital communication skills to communicate brand identity and will be encouraged to think about your personal brand signature. We encourage you to start thinking about your contextual studies research throughout this year.
Year 2
You will gain a greater understanding of managing your personal brand and will work in creative collaboration with industry partners and students from other disciplines. Merchandising and visual merchandising are taught in the context of real industry practice. Every student will be given the opportunity to undertake a work placement and participate in manufacturing visits to echo the fashion buyer’s role.
Year 3
We ask you to show your contextual studies research in a written or visual dissertation. You will further build on your skills in consumer research and trend prediction to make the case for a gap in the market to launch a new brand. You write a market research report, create a brand proposal, range plan, tech packs and produce a range of creative outcomes.
