Graphic Design is the perfect area to study for students looking to further their skills or retrain in the commercial creative industry. This course has been set up to provide students with a vocationally relevant qualification in the rapidly expanding world of digital graphic design. Subjects covered The Modules include: • Major Design project • Options in Animation, Web design, Advertising and Photography • Research Techniques • Discourse & Representation In addition to taught modules, a final year project will allow students to choose a topic to investigate in greater depth. Recent examples have included Packaging Design, Branding, Publication design, Web & App interface design. The style of teaching and learning used in this programme has been carefully designed to suit the subject matter. We recognise that students learn in various ways, so we use a range of different teaching methods and situations to best deliver the learning outcomes for each module. The range of teaching and learning methods used in this programme includes: • Lecture based presentations • Design Software practical’s and workshops • Individual and group project work • Individual presentations • Group and individual tutorials • Industrial placement • Case studies • Oral presentations • Classroom activities promoting interaction at peer and tutor level Assessment A wide range of assessment methods are used in this programme, which have been chosen to suit the subject material being taught. The range of assessment methods you will experience will give you the confidence and capability to complete an Honours degree and progress further in your career. Your Tutor will be on hand to provide support during the assessment process and discuss any queries you may have. The range of assessment methods used in this programme includes: • In-class tests • Assessed practical work • Assessed coursework / assignments • Formative assessment through assignment work feedback • Formal examination • Practical demonstrations • Production report • Project presentation Careers The College is committed to delivering programmes that enhance the employability of our students by equipping them with the essential skills valued by employers. The College has always had a strong vocational and professional focus, effective links with industry and employs a range of strategies to ensure that our graduates are ready to enter the world of work. The second year of the course features a work placement within the design industry, enabling students to get firsthand experience and to develop links to employers and industry. Placements have included Mean fiddler, Marks & Spencer’s, Good Empire, Fast Car Magazine, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Drum, Zombie Collective, Quad Graphics and Letterworks Printing Company. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to progress into careers as network engineers, analyst programmers and systems support.
