Interior Design and Environment Architectures is the design and re-design of existing spaces. This course engages with interiors and pushes the boundaries of how we can make and re-make environments whilst considering the experience of the user.
This course is a fusion of architecture and interior design. It deals specifically with public and private commercial spaces within an urban environment. You will explore the impact of materials, technology, structures and form. You will study the design and rehabilitation of buildings, the technical aspects of construction, and how architecture relates to the notions of live, work and relax. You will develop your skills through a mixture of problem-based learning, design studio tutoring, workshops and traditional teaching.

What your course will look like
Assessment
You will be continually assessed through preparation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through dissertation and portfolio.
Year 1
You will build skills in communication and representation, construction and dual use environment. Alongside this, you will begin to think about your own design and angles on problems of the built environment. We encourage you to start thinking about your contextual studies research.
Year 2
You will gain greater understanding of urban history and theory, urban design, and design for commercial and retail environments, as well as rehabilitation. This will allow you to enhance your practice and develop your approach to your design work. We set briefs that encourage you to collaborate with other students and create work as part of a design team.
Year 3
You will bring your learning together in a final negotiated major project, where you will investigate and make architectural design decisions. Alongside this, you will carry out a negotiated project in the form of a live brief. We ask you to show your contextual studies research and thinking in a long form dissertation. You will leave with a portfolio that shows your skills in areas in entry-level architecture.
