This module represents an opportunity for students to apply and develop, through work experience, the skills and knowledge they have gained on their course. This module involves a year long placement in a business related area, supported by a workplace mentor and UWBS Employability and Placement Unit (EPU). The year-long placement provides students with the opportunity to gain experience of graduate level work. In this way students can gain a second, world-recognised qualification with no extra work. Employers are very keen to employ graduates who have already had work experience as part of their course and this contributes to a student’s unique selling point.

The Business Research Methods module is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake research at undergraduate level. This module will support students in their development of a range of skills to facilitate independent research-based learning and the interpretation of research findings. There is a 36 hours of scheduled teaching in class with an additional 12 hours of asynchronous activity. It will provide a vehicle for the students to demonstrate a range of both intellectual and practical skills, which will prove vital for future career development. The students will produce a research proposal that assess all the learning outcomes.

This module aims to analyse the role of Gastronomy and Menu Design in the context of post modern society. It addresses critical and contemporary issues such as changes in gastronomy and their effect on food and beverage offerings, taste and design of accommodation sectors, the role of alcohol in providing the wider hospitality product, the provision of hospitality to support major sporting events or festivals and defines & lsquo;hospitality& rsquo; within different global contexts of culture and contemporary consumer behaviour. Taking case studies from social life, for example changes to the hospitality tourism offer, the growth of food focussed holidays in western societies and different eating and food cultures, it illustrates the role of fashion in the formation of collective taste.
