Course programme
What your course will look like
Assessment
You will be continually assessed through presentation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through submission of a dissertation, portfolio of work and showreel.
Year 1
You will build fundamental skills in conceptual thinking, storytelling, graphic design, branding, communication and visualisation. There is an emphasis on understanding the industry and exploring the broad role of the motion graphic designer. We encourage you to start thinking about your contextual studies research throughout this year.
Year 2
All the skills attained in your first year will be brought together in your second year in longer projects that reflect the sort of real-life work motion graphic designers might typically do.
These projects will include:
- film and television title sequences
- information graphics
- advertising and promotional films
- music video and branding.
You will also get the opportunity to collaborate with students from other courses, choose elective units that reflect your personal interests, engage with industry professionals and get opportunities to work on live briefs and take up internships.
Year 3
Your final year is focussed on creating a personal portfolio of work that reflects your skills and aspirations as a motion graphics designer.
You will:
- be required to do one competition or live brief but otherwise all briefs can be self initiated
- receive portfolio reviews from industry professionals
- have on-going mentoring and technical advice
- attend specialist workshops.
Progression
Successful completion of this course can lead to postgraduate study in MA Moving Image.
