Course programme
Amersham & Wycombe College – a leading provider of vocational courses and training in Buckinghamshire
Students of all ages and backgrounds study with us each year; whether you are a young person soon to leave school or an adult looking to retrain or enhance your job prospects by gaining new skills, then we have something for you.
You could take various routes including: drama/theatre industries, Theatre in Education (TiE), community theatre, theatre education, setting up your own theatre company. Progression can also lead to postgraduate study (Masters or beyond) at drama/theatre schools.
This course is designed as a third year, theory-in-practice based programme for students who have completed an HND or Foundation Degree, or two years of a BA programme in a relevant discipline.
The aim of this course is to further promote development of your 'triple threat' skills base, singing, acting and dance and is, as a result, a demanding programme.
The notion of the thinking performer is central to the curriculum of this BA year, as it requires deeper analytical skills than the two preceding years, and will culminate not only in performance, but an Honours level dissertation.
Modules include:
Contextual dissertation (includes critical theory studies)
Musical theatre disciplines (advanced acting, singing and dance)
Practitioner studies (musical theatre influences and innovations)
Major theatrical production (large scale production)
It is expected that all students will support their work by undertaking external 1-on-1 singing tuition outside the course.
