In the context of a social – psychological understanding of human behaviour, this programme explores the study of the human mind and human behaviour in the context of the immediate social world. It provides an opportunity for students to study complex debates about the human mind, human development, and human interaction in a way that is underpinned by the principles of Critical Psychology. The programme stresses the importance of understanding developments within the discipline by locating them in social and historical contexts, and developing a critical awareness of the impact of the social world on the development of psychological understanding, and the impact of psychological understanding on the development of the social world.

The programme provides an understanding of human psychology and a contextualised approach to working with people with a knowledge of psychology. It provides knowledge about modes of psychological understanding, analysis and interpretation, and an understanding of how to apply this knowledge contextually in practical ways.
