4. Our employability modules enable you to explore sport business management career pathways and engage in career development planning that prepares you for graduate-level employment in a competitive industry.

5. Each year you will have opportunities to participate in career development activities and network with employers from the sports business industry.

You will have the opportunity to transfer to a sandwich placement year in a sport business management context. Our sandwich placement option allows you to take a full-year work placement, which can be undertaken abroad. A number of students in our department have been successful in securing places on these schemes in countries such as Spain, France, Canada and the US.

The module examines internal and external policies and processes and explores pertinent legal and regulatory requirements. Real-world scenarios and opportunities to apply knowledge to practice are provided to support your understanding of the subject area.

Much more emphasis is now being placed on sports organisations to evidence impact and as such, an understanding of demonstrating impact through research is fundamental to those who wish to work in the sport industry. You will be introduced to different types of research and when they might be used, exploring how research informs practice in the sport industry. You will also develop confidence in your own research skills by learning some of the key processes to collect and interpret data.

Sport marketing is a growing industry. This module will give you an insight into sport media and marketing from local, national and global perspectives. You will learn about how media has changed and developed, the different forms of media available within a sports business management context and the contribution it makes to the success of organisations, teams, events and individual performers. You will examine how media and marketing is used in different contexts, for example when organising an event or initiative or promoting activities at a sport facility. You will explore theories and principles of sport marketing and their application to relevant contexts. You will learn how media technology is used to connect with target audiences. In addition you will consider inclusivity and how principles of inclusivity relate to media and marketing. Problem based learning and industry case studies will be used to support your learning in this module

You will develop a broad understanding of the sport industry in this module which will provide a foundation from which to build upon for the remainder of the degree. The module focuses on the development of your capacity to engage with the policies, procedures and practices involved in the effective planning, organisation, staffing and operational management of sporting events. In learning about the challenges of organising these events, you will draw on concepts and theories from the sports industry. Problem based learning and industry case studies will be used to support your learning in this module. Examples will be drawn from the whole spectrum of sports events ranging from local voluntary participatory occasions to highly commercialised and globalised elite sports competitions.
