Course programme

BA Human Geography [L700] is a specialist degree usually followed by those interested in combining social science and the humanities. From contemporary urban metropolises to rural communities, the degree examines the ways in which human societies make and shape place.
Human Geography is an exciting and rewarding subject to study at university. Human Geography explores the nature and impact of cultural, social, economic and political processes from the local to the global scale. Human Geographers look at how human society - individuals, institutions and governments - makes and shapes places. Incorporating perspectives from the humanities and the social sciences, a Human Geography degree will give you a unique insight into the world around you.

The Geography degree schemes at Aberystwyth give us one of the largest groups of Geography students in the country. Normally, entry via L700 is taken by students who have studied Geography at A level along with Arts or Social Science subjects (or equivalent qualifications).
In the first year you will be taking six modules in Human Geography, and five others from other subjects of your choice, including Physical Geography, Environmental Earth Science or Environmental Science taught in the IGES, or subjects adjacent to Human Geography in departments such as International Politics, Economics, History or Education. In the second and third year you can specialise exclusively in Human Geography, with modules including practicals and computer classes, tutorials, fieldwork and specialist teaching where you can learn about key issues in contemporary Human Geography, including Economic and Social Restructuring, the Sustainable Society, The Americas, Rural Geography, Urban Geography and Latin America.
