Course programme
As Banking and Investment Management are related fields, it can be beneficial to those seeking a career in these fields to cover some banking and investment concepts and topics in one degree. This will provide a strong foundation to enable graduates to operate responsibly and successfully in the general banking, private banking, investment banking and investment management environment at a junior level.
The qualification will function as articulation into a Postgraduate Diploma in Investment Management/Banking, which most financial institutions require for a further career in the sector. As the course curriculum offers some investment modules, it will also assist with the preparation for the CFA Level 1 exam.
CAREERS
The banking sector has evolved into an industry that employs highly skilled individuals. Today, degreed individuals are preferred for many entry level jobs and an undergraduate degree is no longer sufficient to climb the career ladder further. Solid knowledge in advanced banking concepts and how a bank operates as a business are required at a minimum. Apart from this, specialised knowledge of different areas of banking and analytical/research skills are expected from candidates applying for jobs in more senior roles.
Both industries - banking and investment – have evolved into industries that offer a highly regulated, fast-paced and challenging job environment. Staff require a degree in order to embark on a career in banking or to enter the investment management environment. Although other bachelor degrees are accepted, banks and investment houses tend to prefer commerce graduates with specialisation in Banking and/or Investment. From there on, to climb the career ladder further, Postgraduate or Honours qualifications are needed.
