Our BSc and MMath Mathematics courses will help you build on your existing knowledge and gain a strong foundation across the fundamentals of mathematics including algebra, analysis, mechanics, advanced calculus and statistics.

In your third year, you’ll be able to choose from a broad range of optional modules in topics such as Riemannian geometry, matrix analysis, quantum mechanics, and mathematical ecology and epidemiology – enabling you to tailor your course to your individual interests and career aspirations.

Our teaching is directly informed by our world-leading research, so you’ll have the opportunity to learn about pure and applied topics in mathematics – from string theory to meteorology – from academics who are leading the way in these fields.

Mathematics is the basis of many aspects of modern life and has applications across the sciences, technology, finance and management. As well as being designed to meet the needs of employers, our courses give you a solid foundation from which to pursue further study in mathematics or scientific research.

Around a quarter of our recent graduates have gone into postgraduate education, either to obtain a teaching qualification or to study for a higher degree, such as an MSc or PhD.

BSc (Hons): AAB-ABB. Applicants taking the Science Practical Endorsement are required to pass.

MMath (Hons): AAA-AAB. Applicants taking the Science Practical Endorsement are required to pass.

Required subjects: Grade A in Mathematics.

GCSE or equivalent: English Language at Grade C(4) and Mathematics at Grade C(4) (or equivalent).

BSc (Hons) - Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA)
This programme will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation, awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, when it is followed by subsequent training and experience in employment to obtain equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught masters degrees.

MMath - Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA)
This programme is accredited to meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
