This combined degree provides a pathway to a career that integrates exercise and physical activity with disease prevention, health, rehabilitation, nutrition and sports performance. You will learn to design exercise and nutrition programs to improve quality of life across diverse populations. Graduates are eligible to become accredited exercise scientists (with Exercise and Sports Science Australia), nutritionists, or practicing dietitians (with the Dietitians Association of Australia).
The five-year course enables students to design effective exercise and nutrition programs for healthy individuals, elite athletes, and people with a disability or lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, diabetes or hypertension.
Students will learn to coach people to meet specific goals and provide advice on a healthy balanced diet, weight management, food allergies or intolerances, as well as conditions like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and digestive problems.
The combined degree incorporates significant clinical and professional fieldwork opportunities, providing hands-on experience with real clients in a supervised environment. This allows students to integrate the academic components of the course with the practical abilities required of their chosen profession.

Study plan
You will complete 240 credit points (cp) to qualify for the award of this combined degree. In the Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science), you will follow a prescribed course of study with a total of 144cp including one elective unit of study in third year. Extensive practical experience is integrated throughout the course commencing in first year, and will include a placement in an exercise science related field. You will complete a minimum of 140 hours of practicum to graduate and meet the AAESS accreditation standard. You will then complete additional 96cp of units of study prescribed for the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics including a research project and a professional training placement. This professional training placement is undertaken in the last semester of the combined degree.
