The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work degree is a professional qualification that is accredited with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and satisfies all the academic requirements necessary for professional recognition as a social worker. Our program offers you the opportunity to combine this professional qualification with majors that complement the Bachelor of Social Work, such as Sociology and Social Policy, Gender Studies or Philosophy offered through the Bachelor of Arts degree .
Our combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Social Work program teaches relevant skills and knowledge to people who are interested in becoming social, youth, health, welfare or community workers, or working in residential care, administration, research, policy development or counselling.
You will be required to undertake integrated studies in social sciences, social policy and social work theory and practice. This degree has a strong emphasis on Australian and comparative social welfare studies. In years four and five, you will undertake the professional social work program, which includes fieldwork supervised by highly skilled and experienced practitioners in a variety of settings. These placements are an essential part of the course.

Course Structure
Study planIn this five year degree, candidates spend the first three years undertaking a combination of Arts, Social Sciences and Social Work units of study, including a major from Arts and Social Sciences and its prerequisite units, a second major or elective units of study, aswell as core units in Sociology, Aboriginal Studies, Psychology and Social Policy. The fourth and fifth years of the degree are spent studying Social Work full-time. This will comprise units of study in Issue Based Learning, Professional Practice and Integrative Studies plus 60 days of field education in year 4 and 80 days in year 5.
