The Bachelor of Development Studies (Honours) degree exemplifies the ANU commitment to research-led education. Building on the Bachelor of Development Studies, it gives you high-level preparation for professional life or a higher degree by research through the development of an advanced knowledge of the research principles and methods and theoretical concepts of development studies, and through the design and implementation of a research project, typically a 20,000 word thesis, that leads to the development of new understandings or that provides solutions to complex problems.

About this course
A Bachelor of Development Studies Degree from ANU, or equivalent from another institution with a weighted average mark of at least 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units of courses with highest final mark, excluding 1000-level courses, from the Development Studies major and Regional Studies in Development specialisation and with the written approval of an identified supervisor for THES4103 Thesis.

A minimum of 12 units from completion of research training courses from the following list:
ANTH4011 History of Anthropological Theory
ANTH4012 Theory and Ethnography in the Analysis of Cultures
POLS4011 Research Training: Scope and Methods
SOCY4009 Sociology Honours Theory Seminar
SOCY4010 Sociology Honours Methods Seminar
A maximum of 12 units from completion courses from the following list:
POLS4009 Special Topics in Politics and International Relations 1
POLS4010 Special Topics in Politics and International Relations 2
24 units from completion of any of the following compulsory course:
THES4103 Thesis
HONS4100 Final Honours Grade will be used to calculate the Class of Honours and the Mark. It will be calculated using the formula: Σ (mark x units) / Σ units, giving NCN and WN a nominal mark of zero
