Details
As a secondary teacher, you can contribute to the development and further growth of keen young adult minds in the real world. You can share your passion for your chosen teaching areas.
In the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) you will choose a major and a minor teaching area depending on your desired career outcome. A good background in your selected teaching areas at Year 12 level (or equivalent) is strongly recommended.
Why choose this course?
Biology is the study of life and living things: animals, insects, plants and microorganisms; everything that breathes, grows and feeds us. Biology teachers can appeal to students’ curiosity about nature, teaching them how these things work, how to grow and protect them—how to get involved with life on this planet. Biology teachers play a central role in developing students’ scientific literacy and have the chance to link classroom learning to students’ real experiences through laboratory work.
With QUT’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree, you will gain an understanding of approaches to teaching and planning instruction in biology for the senior and junior years of schooling. You will be taught by leading academics, and equipped with quality support and cutting-edge resources to set you apart from the competition. You will be prepared to teach subjects in the Australian Curriculum.
Real-world learning
QUT organises professional experience (field experience) placements to give you the opportunity to work in real school classrooms, supervised by practising professional educators. At QUT you may be selected for additional opportunities to spend more time in schools and other settings to gain extra experience.
Career outcomes
Graduates will have a solid foundation of knowledge to teach biology and general science in secondary schools. Your career will be guided by, but not limited to, your chosen teaching areas. You will be qualified to teach at an intermediate level in your minor teaching...
