Course programme

The Bachelor of Fine Arts is Australia’s leading specialist arts program, offering intensive, studio-based arts training to students in music, visual and performing arts.

The program is taught by the Victorian College of the Arts at the Southbank campus and offers immersive and experiential practice based studio studies. The Bachelor of Fine Arts is designed to train highly skilled arts practitioners who can work independently or in ensemble in a range of careers and performance or production opportunities.

The course is characterised by regular exhibitions, performances and production work in first and second year. Third year provides a focus for profiling your work to the arts profession of your choice.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts is an internationally recognised qualification that allows you to successfully work in your chosen profession or continue on to further study or research.

Key features

  • Each specialisation within the degree is characterised by regular exhibitions, performances or production work in first and second year with a capstone experience in the final year that takes the form of a public exhibition or performance, providing a focus and resolution to three years of study.
  • The VCA has an extensive range of fee remission and bursary scholarships, prizes and awards available to both our current students and recent graduates. Some scholarships are awarded directly by the VCA to high-achieving students, and others are offered by application and evaluated on merit or financial need.

  • Our Southbank campus is centrally located within Melbourne’s cultural and arts precinct, alongside the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Theatre Company, Melbourne Recital Centre, the Australian Ballet, Chunky Move Dance Company, the Arts Centre and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.
  • The VCA’s strong relationships with local and national industry create unique opportunities for collaborative work and performance. We regularly welcome national and international visiting artists.

  • Our graduates are recognised nationally and internationally as leaders in their chosen artistic disciplines.
