The only degree of its kind currently offered in Australia, the Bachelor of Islamic Studies from Charles Sturt University provides well-rounded knowledge in the disciplines of Islam. This degree will benefit anyone seeking an understanding or appreciation of the Islamic faith for either career development or personal interest.
Developed in response to a growing need for understanding the Islamic faith in the Australian context, this degree provides Islamic education that offers the skills and qualifications of a university degree with a strong focus on classical Islamic studies.

Subjects
For each 8 point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, residential schools, or examinations.
If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

As a Charles Sturt University student, throughout your course you have a responsibility to continue to develop skills in English language, literacy and numeracy as appropriate to your discipline. This ongoing development will enable you to effectively participate in your course and graduate prepared to enter the workforce.
Bachelor of Islamic Studies
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.
Associate Degree in Islamic Studies [Exit Point Only]
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.
Diploma of Islamic Studies [Exit Point Only]

BACHELOR OF ISLAMIC STUDIES
To graduate with the Bachelor of Islamic Studies, students must complete 24 subjects (192 points). All subjects have a value of 8 points. The course consists of the following subjects:
• 10 core subjects (80 points)
• 14 restricted elective subjects (112 points) comprising:
- 4 x Arabic restricted electives, chosen from the list below;
- 6 x Islamic Studies restricted electives, chosen from the list below;
- 4 x elective subjects chosen from the Islamic Studies restricted electives list below OR from another discipline (prior approval from Course Director needed).
