COURSE VIDEO Google Head talks STEM 02:11 The Bachelor of Science (Advanced) and Doctor of Dental Medicine represents a new chapter in dental education. Not only will you graduate from this double degree as a dentist, eligible for registration with the Dental Board of Australia, you will also have an in depth understanding of a range of science areas that interest you.

The seven-year course is ideal for the dentistry student who wants challenge and flexibility in their degree. Not only will you improve your knowledge of the sciences, you will also be able to indulge your personal interests by studying subjects offered by other faculties.

Your first three years will be studying the Bachelor of Science (Advanced), where you will be exposed to cutting-edge research across a range of science areas that interest you. Many of these subjects will be at the Advanced level, designed to give you a greater challenge and experience. You have a choice of over 30 subjects to major in at either the advanced or normal level. See list below for advanced majors and visit the Bachelor of Science course entry for a complete list of science majors.

The remaining four years will be focused on completing the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program, which qualifies graduates to practice as dentists. The first year and half is spent on the Camperdown campus and in the Sydney Dental Hospital with occasional visits to the Westmead Centre for Oral Health. From the second semester in year 2, you will increasingly engage in patient-based clinical training. Clinical training takes place in the two main academic hospitals and there is a compulsory community-based component through rotations in rural, remote and metropolitan dental clinics.

After graduation you will be eligible for immediate registration with the Dental board of Australia, allowing you to go straight into practice. As well as private practice, you might also wish to work in public...
