The M.A. in Primary Education with Earth Science is one of a suite of six programmes which replaces the B.Ed in Primary Education (Hons), in response to the Scottish Governments recent endorsement of Teaching Scotlands Future: Report of a review of teacher education in Scotland (Donaldson: 2010). As a degree programme it provides expertise in both Primary Education and Earth Sciences to Honours level, as well as providing Initial Teacher Education leading to Qualified Teacher Status.

Course programme

Course Content Year 1

You will study 40 credits each of primary studies, educational studies and earth sciences. Primary education courses include placements in schools.

Year 2

As Year 1.

Year 3

You will take a year-long school placement in a Scottish primary school, experience a range of stages and develop professional skills and abilities to prepare for your induction year. You will also study 20 credits each of primary studies and educational studies on a 'recall days' basis.

Year 4

You will take primary studies, educational studies (including a dissertation) and earth sciences. Primary education courses include placements in schools.
