Barbering - Advanced Apprenticeship

Course overview In the UK there are approximately 2,967 barbering business employing are than 5,300 barbers in addition to 36,000 salons who offer unisex services. Barbering covers traditional skills such as scissors over comb and shaving with new specialist techniques such as 2D and 3D sculpting. Barbers can work in a variety of locations; barber shops, salons, spas, hospitals, care homes, prisons, department stores, hotels, airlines and holiday resorts. Typically an individual who is working towards this apprenticeship framework will assume the role of a barber or senior barber and will carry out services which will include; cutting patterns in hair, colouring, colour correction, creative hairdressing skills and perming. As well as shaving, cutting and shaping beards and moustaches. Apprenticeships are a tested way of training either a new or existing team member. An apprenticeship will provide on-the-job training which leads to an employee gaining a nationally recognised qualification which has been developed by the Sector Skills Council. The Apprenticeship framework will include the following elements; • Barbering – Level 3 Diploma (NVQ) • Mathematics – Level 2 • English – Level 2 • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills Entry requirements An employee/apprentice must be over 16 years of age with no prior level 4 qualifications or above working a minimum of 30 contracted hours per week in an appropriate occupational role
