Aim This course is designed to equip you with the necessary practical experience and theoretical knowledge needed for a career in Beauty Therapy and related disciplines.
Content Although most of your time will be spent working in a salon environment you will be expected to complete written assignments and compile a comprehensive portfolio of work.

This qualification consists of 3 core units:
· Health and safety
· Promoting products
· Working as a team

and specialist units which include:
· Improving facial skin condition
· Manicures and pedicures
· Waxing
· Cosmetic make up
· Enhancing the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes.

Assessment is continuous throughout the course using a mixture of practical, oral and written methods. In order to achieve the full NVQ qualification all units must be successfully completed.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful students will be encouraged to progress to Year 3 (NVQ Level 3). A further interview will explain the course content in more detail and check your commitment. Alternatively, those who choose to seek employment will be at Beauty Consultant level. There are also opportunities for employment in nail bars, hotels, health farms, leisure centres, cruise liners and airlines

Extra information You will need to buy a uniform and beauty therapy kit. At interview you will be given full details of where you can purchase your uniform and equipment at a competitive price. Your kit will form the basis of your professional work kit and may be used when taking your own clients.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
