Course programme

This six week course introduces beginners to the basics of making your own clothes, using a commercial paper pattern. You will make a simple top, skirt or dress, choosing your pattern from a list of recommendations provided by Sew-How.

This six week course runs from Thursday 13th January to Thursday 17th February. The course consists of six 2.5 hour sessions starting at 6.30pm and ending at 9pm each week.

Sewing machines and sewing equipment are provided, along with refreshments. You will need to purchase your own fabric and pattern, but not until after the first session.

You will learn how to: Choose fabric suitable for your pattern, adapt a paper pattern to fit your measurements, sew seams, finish seams, insert a zip (if appropriate for your pattern) and turn up a hem, press, mark, cut and how to understand a commercial pattern and make your garment from start to finish! You may need to complete some sewing at home to enable you to leave with a finished garment.

Level: Complete beginner, those returning to sewing after a break or those who have attended a Sew-How beginners' workshop
