This Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 programme is for those people aged 16 or over who have gained Level 2 and are working in Carpentry or Joinery and who wish to achieve a recognised qualification. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group.  This programme offers two pathways: Bench Joinery or Site Carpentry. Both cover advanced knowledge and skills. A substantial part of the programme is devoted to workshop activities. A portfolio of evidence is required, most of which will be by evidence from the site.

Safety boots and overalls must be worn in workshops.

THE APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK: The Framework is made up of the following components. In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.

MAIN NVQ
NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry Sitework/Bench Joinery, comprising of 4 mandatory units of study plus Carpentry or Bench Joinery optional units, which specify the minimum levels of performance required to work as a qualified Carpenter or Joiner.

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE
Level 3 Diploma in Bench Joinery
Portfolio / Evidence of Training

KEY SKILLS/FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Application of Number Level 2
Communications Level 2

EMPLOYMENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS PROJECT

Course programme

On successful completion of all elements of the advanced apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to progress to further learning on the HNC/HND Construction and Built Environment course.

Ideally you should have GCSEs grade 4 (C) in English (language) and maths or above and have completed a Level 2 NVQ in Site Carpentry/Bench Joinery. All applicants wishing to enrol will need to meet with a member of staff beforehand.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Candidates need to be in a relevant job role, have a contract of employment and work a minimum of 30 hours a week.
