Course review:

This one day course is designed to give you total understanding of Licensing Law issues that will prepare you to sit the APLH examination at the end of the session. The training is supported by BIIAB APLH Handbook which is sent out with the confirmation of booking.

You must attend if you are thinking of running a pub, bar or restaurant or any other retailing of alcohol. Licensing Law in England and Wales states that anyone who authorises the sale of alcohol to the public must hold a Personal Licence. To obtain your Personal Licence you must contact your Local Authority. You'll be asked for a number of things to support your application and one of these is proof that you hold a Government approved Licensing qualification such as the BIIAB Award for Personal Licence Holders.

What does it cover?

  • How to apply for a Personal Licence
  • Roles and legal responsibilities of the Personal Licence holder and the penalities relating to failure to comply with the Law
  • The Premises Licence
  • The role and duties of Designated Premises Supervisor
  • The premises licence
  • Rights of entry to Licensed Premises
  • The content and purpose of operating schedules
  • Temporary Events Notices
  • The strengths of alcoholic drinks and their effects on the human body
  • The protection of children from harm
  • Police powers
  • The Specific prohibitions for the sale of alcohol
  • Strengths of alcohol and effects
  • The responsible sale of alcohol
  • The role and legal responsibilities of a personal licence holder and penalties relating to failure to comply with the law
