National Certificate for Door Supervision

If you want to work as a door supervisor in England and Wales, you need to have a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which was set up by the government to regulate the private security industry, including door supervision. Without a licence, you can't legally work on the door of licensed premises.

What is the recognised qualification I need?

If you don't already have a door supervisor qualification. Holding a recognised door supervisor qualification is part of the SIA's requirements to obtain a licence to practice. In order to achieve this qualification, learners must successfully complete two examinations:

What does the course cover?

The qualification consists of two units:

Unit 1 - Roles and Responsibilities of Door Supervision

This includes administration polices and procedures, effusing entry, searching, seizing articles, eviction, use of force and offensive weapons, how to comply with the law, drugs, arrest, scene preservation and report writing.

Unit 2 - Conflict Management for Door Supervision

This includes managing conflict by applying dynamic risk approaches, understanding the importance of self-awareness and being proactive,how to defuse conflict by overcoming communication blocks, signalling non-aggression and managing high-risk situations, how to resolve conflict, and how to learn from conflict.
