Soybeans, maize, rapes, cotton, and many other traditional products arrive on the store shelves genetically modified - gene engineering is a great scientific achievement that solves global issues. The application of the gene transfer methods accelerates the evolution of nature, therefore, it is possible to create pest-resistant crops, reduce the problems of the world's starving nations, and even invent medicines from uncurable diseases.
Bioengineering unites natural sciences and engineering - the two areas that are vitally important for the modern humanity. The specialists of this field make use of engineering knowledge in both medicine and biology.
The aim of the study programme is to prepare specialists, who are able to work at biotechnology, food, agriculture enterprises and industrial companies, as well as at quality control, educational and research institutions.
This programme is unique in Lithuania due to the fact that it teaches students to manage, analyze and model both biotechnological and chemical processes, describe them in the language clear to bioengineers around the world.
Students acquire knowledge of microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, gene engineering, biological systems modelling, biochemistry engineering basic knowledge, and are able to aplly them practically.
