Course programme

Introduction

This course is designed for Dental Technicians and Clinical Dental Technicians who want to gain a deeper understanding of the setting up techniques at the heart of the BPS system.

Integral to the BPS system is our aim to create realistic true to life dentures that provide the patient with a natural smile. Learn how to position the denture teeth to provide the appearance that they actually grew into place. Create a smile individual and natural to each patient with the dentures that look like they are part of the patient. Learn know how to spot denture problems and what to do to avoid them.

Overview

Over a two-day period, each participant will follow the BPS system protocols and understand the importance of a detailed examination of the anatomy of the edentulous casts, relating to the position of each individual tooth place to landmarks on the models. This method of setting the anterior teeth or the ‘Biogenic set up’ requires an understanding of the resorption of the alveolar processes.

Participants will learn how to use the Stratos articulation system and put into practice its range of accessories. A clear insight into the full range of Ivoclar Vivadent private denture teeth will be provided, including setting up techniques, how to set teeth for deep overbites, which teeth should be used for cross bites, how lingualised occlusion works and how to position fully anatomic teeth in complete dentures.

Dentures will be processed using the SR Ivocap Injection moulding system. This system perfectly replicates the position of the teeth and final wax work without any increase in vertical dimension. The unique way in which the material is mixed and the continuous pressure feed ensures an exceptionally strong denture base and precise fit. Finally, you will learn that your personal touch and creativity makes each BPS denture as unique as the patient who wears them.

Aims & Objectives

  • Learn the model analysis for full arch prosthetics - the stable reference points important for the restoration of the full arch using complete dentures
  • Understand shape, position and arrangement of denture teeth - set to the dental arch (ovoid square and tapered); set according to the anatomy of the palate (papilla, rugae, intervestibular distance, bite classification, overcrowding)
  • Understand tooth dominance (individual and grouped)
  • Understand denture tooth dimensions (individual and grouped)
  • Understand denture tooth axis - the progression of distal inclination of the anterior teeth
  • Understand posterior tooth position for stability and function and the use of standardised compensation curves
  • Understand tooth graduation - the principles of graduation of size and bilateral progression in size and shape of the denture teeth from the central incisor to the most visible posterior tooth
  • Understand the use of idela reference points for full arch prosthetics - median plane, horizontal plane, campers plane, Bonwill Triangle and Balkwill angle
  • Understand the wear patterns in posterior teeth for various skeletal classifications
  • Understand the use of the Biofunctional Prosthetics System for full arch prosthetics
