About this course

Students should have a minimum of five GCSEs at C or better including Mathematics, English Language, Science and Additional Science (or Biology). Applied Science is not a suitable qualification with which to start this course. AS and A level Biology involve a good deal of mathematical problems solving so students must have at least a grade C in Maths.

What are the main features of this course?
The first year is the AS course and covers cell structure, cellular organisation, transport, biochemistry, health, biodiversity, classification and evolution. The 2nd year completes the 'A' level with topics such as communication, respiration, photosynthesis, excretion, biotechnology, ecosystems and response.

Hours of Lessons per Week : 4.7
Indicative Group Size : 20

How is the course assessed?
The syllabus is assessed by two examinations in the AS year and two in the A2 year. Practical work in both years is assessed by students completing three tasks set by OCR. Examinations are available in January and June.

Who should study this course?
