What I would highlight: I am currently studying at Blake College and I must say that, in my view, this is an awesome college! The teachers are all very understanding and I can say that this is the best college I have been two in a long time. I would highly recommend Blake College to anyone else, you really must go there, it's also the best working and learning environment I have seen so far. Thank you very much Blake College!

What I would highlight: I think this is the best art college ever! All teachers are excellent, and I am including here the administration staff as well, very dedicated students and very good infrastructure! As for the IT facilities, they are modern and accessible to all students. I feel I have made really good friends from the college. I would highly recommend Blake College to anyone willing to start their career in Arts! Thanks!

What I would highlight: I recently finished the Illustration course at Blake College. I truly think that the quality of teaching in the college is extraordinary. The tutors have time for you and teach the subject in a very advanced way, but at the level of each individual in the class. The equipment is of a high standard and is always availiable. The exception is the computers sometimes because most of the college needs them. The teaching staff at Blake College prepare you not only for University but also for real life, my experience has been great.

What I would highlight: The BEST art college experience I have ever had. Amazing teachers who give you so much and work hard to support you to get to where you want to be. Small class sizes mean you get to know other students and get so much contact time with teachers, something you won't get anywhere else, and before you know it you are part of the family! This is a college that genuinely cares about you and tailors the courses to your needs. You will meet people from all walks of life, sharing experiences, learning from each other and nurturing each other's creativity. Come to Blake - you won't look back!!!
What could be improved: Everything was positive.

What I would highlight: The course is perfect for everyone, from the beginners to advanced. Every class we were doing more than only drawing, the activities were designed to encourage our creativity and better define our personal style. The teacher is amazing, before the course I thought I couldn't draw at all and nowadays I work as an illustrator!
What could be improved: That is not a very long course, I didn't want to stop :)

Advantages of studying here

You will study in small groups (4-16 students).

You will be taught by professionals who are actively involved in the subject they are teaching, providing you with a unique insight into your chosen profession and usefull contacts.

Every new full-time student will have an initial meeting with the Director of Studies or the Assistant Director of Studies, to get to know them and to give advice on the most suitable courses and qualifications.

The teacher will be with each class the whole time.

If you want to change classes or the direction of your course you can discuss this at any time with the Director of Studies who will normally allow the change if the reason is clear.

Every full-time student will have three individual sessions with their personal tutor throughout the year to discuss progress and to give advice on portfolio presentation and further progression. If you feel you need help with English, form-filling and university applications, your tutor will assist you you with this.

At the end of each project (normally every 6 weeks) you will be given individual feedback about your work from your teacher in each class. In most classes you will also get group feedback.

Areas of specialisation

We are a BTEC qualification centre accredited by Edexcel and all our courses can lead to an internationally recognised qualification, although entry is not obligatory. Our students generally achieve results above the national average. External examiners ensure that students' work meets expected standards.

The BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is the popular route to prepare for entry to university study. A diagnostic course that encourages you to explore and experiment with different pathways, media and materials in order to identify and specialise in your area of interest. You will develop a portfolio and work on a self-set major project. This is the highest qualification currently offered at the College.

BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas and Certificates are more specialised courses that allow you to focus on an area of your interest right from the start. These qualifications can be either taken as vocational qualifications in their own right or they could form an alternative route for entry to Higher Education.

We also offer our own Diplomas and Certificates which are at the same level as the BTECs but allow more flexibility.

You will be given individual advice on which qualification will best suit your needs and which combination of courses is the most appropriate.

Description

Blake is a small, friendly, independent college in North London. Established in 1986, we offer courses in Fine Art, Photography and Digital Media, as well as Fashion, Interior and Graphic design.

We provide a lively, informal learning atmosphere where students are treated as individuals and are given personalised guidance and support throughout their course. We have developed a happily distinctive ethos, tailoring a suitable programme of studies for each student and encouraging them to develop their own enthusiasms while offering a great deal of flexibility. Our small size allows us to get to know all our students as individuals so that we can help them to realise their personal potential and guide them towards achieving a creatively fulfilling future. Blake is refreshingly different from the many large and impersonal colleges that may be well established and prestigious but are often not flexible enough to meet the needs of the individual student.

As an accredited qualification centre we can offer a range of internationally recognised qualifications. We also receive some government funding which we use to offer reduced fees or free courses to qualifying students.

Students normally stay for a full academic year but can come and go for shorter or longer periods because of the structured, modular and project based nature of the courses.

The College takes its inspiration from William Blake, the eighteenth century painter, poet and mystic who was also an artisan managing to make a living within the society around him while remaining true to himself.
