Where I’m from it’s almost more common to\u00a0study abroad\u00a0than to study “at home”. Maybe it’s because of the weather, maybe it’s because of the great financial aid we get or maybe it’s because “everyone else does it”.
\nToday I read an article in the Independent’s education section\u00a0about what it takes in terms of research to prepare your studies abroad.<\/p>\n
Here are a few ideas I gathered from own experience as well as from researching the subject.<\/p>\n
Visit the place before hand if you have the chance to.
\nTalk to as many people you can that can give you their experience about the specific location.
\nWhat type of accommodation does the school offer?
\nCosts of living in the country is a good thing to research.
\nDepending on the program, the course you take abroad can be recorded as a credit that you later can count into your degree. Research well how this works in the school\/program of your choise.
\nTalk to the teachers at the scool, or exchange emails. Ask, Ask and Ask.
\nFind out about the culture in the place you’d like to to go. Are there any big differences that could become a problem?
\nWhat type of paperwork is necessary to be able to go to your desired location? Visa? Is there a long process to obtain the right paperwork? Insurances?
\nApplication deadlines?
\nAnd last but not least. Are you excited about the place? Does it feel good? Motivation is an important key for success.<\/p>\n
