About this course
Candidates must be able to demonstrate existing knowledge levels through either passing the BFT2 end of course assessment or have achieved an NVQ Level 2 or completed our pre-course questionnaire and achieved a score of 70% or above.

Course Content
Objectives of the course
On completion of the course the delegates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of current safety legislation for the blown film process and the use of safe working practices
- Describe the construction and operation on a blown film extruder, stating the function of component parts and process parameters
- Demonstrate an understanding of blown film die construction principles and maintenance procedures
- Identify various product sizing, cooling, folding and collection ancillary equipment designs
- Describe the structure and properties of plastics materials and their interactions with the extruder
- Identify relevant control and quality monitoring equipment and describe its usage
- Set up and run a blown film line from a zero base situation
- Undertake machine condition setting in a logical and systematic manner
- Recognise common product faults and introduce appropriate rectification adjustments
- Simulate a full product trial and maximise product quality and output rates
- Shut-down a blown film line in a safe and efficient manner
Individual candidate knowledge levels are assessed at the end of the training programme and a management report is provided to help identify further training requirements or career progression possibilities. This is a PTL assessment of knowledge for the blown film process but candidates can then progress towards achievement of their City & Guilds award by successfully completing further knowledge and practical assessments.

Polymer Processing Certificate Part 3
Material covered has been aligned to the content of an NVQ at Level 3 and can be used as underpinning knowledge towards achieving the award, if so desired.
