Alison Prince graduated with a BA (Hons) in Contour Fashion, from De Montfort University in 1996. Since then she has held design and technical positions within the contour fashion industry, in both lingerie and swimwear, managing a team of designers, as well as working as a design manager based in the UK. She runs contour fashion short courses at De Montfort University, as well as bespoke courses which have been run in the UK and across the world

Bra Making - Advanced Understanding manufacture techniques for lingerie is crucial to design and technical innovation, and understanding advanced techniques is key in developing a new range or introducing new lingerie styles, in an increased size range or using a new fabric or component. High quality products and a good design encourages shoppers to choose a brand time after time, while innovation in design encourages consumers to look beyond simply purchasing a replacement bra. Course aims This course provides delegates with the opportunity to understand and explore advanced manufacture techniques specifically for lingerie in order to fully realise the potential of their own design and development opportunities. Attendees will gain knowledge of and experience on industrial machinery in order to produce a series of lingerie pieces using advanced methods in a range of fabrics and finishes.

Objectives

The course includes: • Practical sewing sessions. • Exploration of advanced manufacture techniques for lingerie • Construction methods for lingerie styles • An overview of the components, fabrics, pattern shapes and cutting methods in relation to manufacture • Lingerie construction from development to first sample Learning outcomes At the end of the course delegates will be able to: • Understand, and gain experience of, industrial machinery specific to lingerie manufacture. • Gain an appreciation of advanced pattern shapes, fabric types and uses, and lingerie components and application. • Produce advanced lingerie styles to a professional standard. • Understand construction methods and variables such as elastic tension and areas of additional support, as well as advanced construction methods for lingerie. Delivery The course will be delivered at De Montfort University over two days and includes practical sewing sessions in the machine room. Students will be able to use the knowledge gained and apply it to working in design and technical fields and to further understand bra design through advanced manufacture techniques.
