Course Content
An Introduction to Breakaway training takes place over' half a day and is taught by qualified C&Rtutors.
The Breakaway course is not designed to teach any form of restraint technique.
Recognised techniques or restraining violent or disturbed persons are available separately in the Control & Restraint 5-day basic course.
The breakaway techniques are taught within a legal and ethical framework relevant to those working in the healthcare profession.
Great effort has been made by the tutors of this course to arrive at a set of techniques, which will be of use to women, and smaller framed persons, as well as those with greater physical strengths of agility.
The training consists of demonstration followed by practice. Those attending will work in pairs and play both the aggressor and victim in many different scenarios, to test and experience the effectiveness of the techniques.
The approach of the tutors is to teach techniques that involve the minimum possible use of force, and which are designed to promote the safety of both the aggressor and the victim.
The types of attacks considered will include: -
- Grabs of the arms/wrists
- Grabs of clothing
- Bear Hugs
- Hair Pulls
- Strangles
This list is not exhaustive and tutors can provide a range of responses to particular situations on request from delegates.
