Breastfeeding is the process by which a woman feeds her newborn from birth through the production and release of milk from the udder by directly sucking the puppy from the nipple. Breastfeeding is the physiological way to feed and care for the child in the initial period of life and is one of the fundamental characteristics of all mammals, including humans. Maternal breastfeeding is the physiological way to nourish and care for the child in the initial period of life and is one of the fundamental characteristics of all mammals, including humans, inherited since the upper Triassic by the cynodon reptiles. In cases of breastfeeding of offspring not their own, typical of some social species including man, we speak of baiting. To distinguish it from possible artificial feeding, natural breastfeeding is also defined breastfeeding or, in the case of men, more specifically breastfeeding. Recently it has begun to be defined simply as breastfeeding, differentiating it from formula nutrition.
