About this course

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 or above (D), plus an additional two GCSE’s grade 3 (D) or above including a Technology/Design based subject.



Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

Course programme

Year 1

This is a level 2 Technical Certificate in Bricklaying. This qualification covers all the main skills and knowledge you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work as a bricklayer. You will study the following mandatory content:
Principles of construction
Building cavity walls
Building solid walls and piers
Constructing basic arches
Setting out buildings.

Learning will take place in classrooms (theory) and bespoke workshops for practical activities and assessments.

Additional information

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments: One externally set, externally moderated assignment (practical assessment) One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions. There is also an employer involvement element to this qualification that is required in order to achieve the Technical Certificate.
