If you are a practical person then this is the course for you. There is an emphasis on developing practical skills and preparation for progression into the construction industry. Classes are delivered in a purpose built bricklaying workshop which is equipped with a wide selection of hand tools, technical drawings, building materials and construction equipment. Students will also benefit from site visits and established links with external companies.

Course programme

This introductory qualification in brickwork will provide you with a range of practical skills and knowledge, giving you a sound foundation for a career in the construction industry. The course will cover both bricklaying tools and methods, setting out and building of traditional walls associated with house building. Imperative Health & Safety units are integrated into all our City & Guilds qualifications.
City & Gullds Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying

You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below.
Achievement is by assessment of practical and theory units, a multiple choice online test and practical test.
All students following a full-time programme of study at HLC will study English and maths as part of their studies, please refer to the Study Programmes page of this website.
Progression routes are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria.
