Brickwork Intermediate Apprenticeship

This course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful craftsperson in brickwork and associated trowel trades. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve an NVQ and a Diploma at level 2 in Brickwork.

Course content

The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace. By the end of the course you should be trained in basic building skills.

Brickwork Level 2 Units include:

• Setting Out a Building


• Construct Brick and Block Work


• Construct Walling Detail

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also complete Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal qualification requirements. Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of brickwork. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by the CITB spatial awareness assessment. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with a building company.

What can I do next?

Possible progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship. Bricklaying and craft masonry offer a wide range of opportunities such as working on new builds and refurbishments.

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.

If you are applying for an apprenticeship please use the application form above,
ensuring you complete section 4 of the form. In order to start your apprenticeship you must have an employer
ready to complete your apprenticeship with.
