This Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeship is for those people aged 16 or over who are working in or are about to start working in Brickwork  and who wish to achieve a recognised qualification. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group.

This is a 2 year broad based programme covering the basic knowledge and skills relating to brickwork and allied skills.  A part of the course is devoted to workshop activities.

• Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
• Interpreting working drawings
• Construct cavity walling and forming masonry structures
• Health, safety and welfare in construction
• principles of building construction, information and communication

Safety boots and overalls must be worn in workshops.

THE APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK:  The Framework is made up of the following components.  In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.

MAIN NVQ DIPLOMA
Cskills Awards L2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations, comprising of 5 mandatory units of study and 1 from 8 optional units which specify the minimum levels of performance required to work as a qualified bricklayer.

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE
Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork
Portfolio / Evidence of Training

KEY SKILLS/FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Application of Number Level 1
Communications Level 1

EMPLOYMENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS PROJECT

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Abrasive Wheels Certificate
PLTS (Personal, learning, thinking skills)

Continued on-site training. You will need to complete a portfolio of work evidence.

Course programme

This course will give you a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Brickwork. Progression to NVQ Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Brickwork.

There are no formal entry requirements although ideally you should have GCSE grade 3 (D) in English and maths. Candidates need to be in a relevant job role, have a contract of employment and work a minimum of 30 hours a week.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process.
