This MSc Bridge Engineering will help you develop your knowledge and skills base for bridge analysis, design and management. It also offers the opportunity for practising bridge engineers to update their knowledge of current design and assessment codes and guidelines, and become familiar with developments in new techniques for the design, construction and management of bridges.The course encompasses a wide range of modules which address the whole life-analysis of bridge structures from design through to end-of-life. We also offer you a choice of optional modules from some of our other study streams, covering structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, water engineering, construction management, and infrastructure engineering and management.You’ll have the chance to attend a field trip to a bridge site, which will let you experience how this course’s knowledge is applied in real life.

About this course

Some say that education is just a matter of building bridges. On our MSc Bridge Engineering, we take that literally.Running since the early 1970s, our fully accredited MSc course will build your advanced capabilities in specialist aspects of bridge engineering. It is taught by academics with a keen interest and track record in bridge-related research and practice, alongside guest lectures from industry professionals within the field of bridge engineering and management.Completion of this course will help you successfully pursue a career as a bridge engineer with a consultancy, a specialist contractor or a local authority.

A minimum of 60 per cent in a UK honours degree in civil engineering accredited to CEng, with a minimum of 60 per cent in Structures and Codified Design subjects. Alternatively, a minimum of 70 per cent in a UK honours degree in civil engineering accredited to IEng, plus approval from the relevant institution. We'll also accept a recognised equivalent international qualification. At least five years’ relevant industrial experience (preferably codified design) or a professional qualification (for example, CEng) will also be considered if you don’t meet these requirements.

Accredited by CIHT as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer under the provisions of UK-SPEC for candidates that have already acquired a CEng accredited BEng(Hons) undergraduate first degree.
