Three A Levels are required and must include one science subject from Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Biology preferred). A typical minimum offer would be ABB at A Level. You would also be required to successfully complete the practical element of your Science subject.

A Level applicants who select this course as their Firm UCAS choice may be eligible for our lowered offer scheme. This means that the grades that you will need in order to be accepted on to the course will be reduced.

We welcome applications from students who have tried to improve their examination grades by taking a maximum of one set of resits. We treat these applications in exactly the same way as other applications. However, if you have had more than one attempt at improving your grades, your application will be considered on an individual basis and we reserve to make an amended (higher) offer, or not make an offer.

32 points overall, to include 655 at HL, which must include at least two Sciences (Biology preferred and Maths not considered as a science)

Applications from students studying BTEC National Diploma or Extended Diploma in Applied Science along with Science A Levels (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) are considered on an individual basis.

We welcome applications from students who have taken BTEC qualifications as a first option and who achieved five or more GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths and English Language grade B).

We do not consider applications from students who are unsuccessful in obtaining the required number and/or standard of A-levels for admission to our programmes and subsequently embark on a BTEC as a second option. Instead we would encourage you to resit your A Levels (see our A Level resit policy in the A Levels section).

Applicants of age 21 and above studying an Access to Science qualification will be considered on an individual basis, and may be interviewed. Our standard offer is 45 level three credits, with at least 30 at distinction (the rest must be at merit or distinction).

Foundation Programme in Science (Aston University): For students with good A-level (or equivalent) grades, but who narrowly miss our standard requirements, it is also possible to gain entry to this programme by completing our Foundation Year Programme, (although please note the progression requirements to our programmes). The minimum A level grades we consider for entry to Healthcare Science programmes via the Foundation Programme in Science are BCC, including a science subject. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence of an English language qualification. We encourage you to apply for entry direct to the 1st year in the first instance.

International qualifications: Unfortunately we are not currently able to consider applications from international or EU students for entry to this course due to restrictions on placements. • Audiology courses at Aston are designed to meet the needs of professional audiologists in both the NHS and independent sectors. Audiologists work in multidisciplinary teams, liaising with patients as well as medical, education, and research professionals. A desire to help people is important and the ageing population means demand for hearing assessment and treatment services is increasing.
  

  This course is part of the Modernising Scientific Careers suite of qualifications and fits within the Neurosensory Sciences strand. It is a 3-year programme, with integrated placements in each year in clinical practice.

  Upon successful completion of the course, you will become become competent in many areas of audiological practice. This means you will be eligible to apply to register with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists and the Health & Care Professions Council.

  Year 1

  In the first year, students are introduced to a range of basic sciences related to healthcare science. You will also receive more detailed teaching in the related areas of neurophysiology and vision science as part of the neurosensory sciences strand. Alongside this, you will be introduced to clinical procedures and the skills needed to work with and manage patients.

  Year 2

  In the second year, more advanced areas of audiology are introduced, such as hearing assessment and hearing aid provision. In addition, hearing sciences are addressed in more depth and you will learn about research methods.

  Final Year
  

  Final year prepares you for a professional career as an audiologist. You have the opportunity to research a chosen audiology topic in depth in the dissertation component, and learn how to relate research to developing good clinical practice. You will also discover specialised areas of audiology such as the assessment of children and balance disorders.
