Accounting and finance with FinTech are practical, career-focused subjects. Our learning methods reflect the tasks you’ll be expected to carry out in the workforce.

The future of financial transactions, applications and management of finances is expected to be impacted heavily by FinTech. The course will enable you to understand the trends and innovations in the financial industry. We have already started to see the application of FinTech e.g. cryptocurrency, crowdfunding, mobile payment systems. Therefore, studying this pathway will help you to have a good grasp of not only the foundations and applications of FinTech but also on the strategic implementation of FinTech.

It is important to note that the curriculum does not include the technology, coding or programming involved in FinTech but the strategic management of technology.

About this course

From day one, you’ll develop the theoretical and practical skills needed to succeed as an investment banker, financial analyst, accountant or finance professional. You will develop soft skills in FinTech that will prepare you career in financial services. An interest in news and current affairs will be an asset as you’ll examine and debate current financial issues in light of what you learn.

Throughout the course you’ll learn about foundations and applications of FinTech, business analytics, financial and management accounting and the business and regulatory environment in which businesses operate. You’ll also learn about financial management and the role of the financial markets and key financial institutions.

A major part of the course involves understanding FinTech and its applications in industry, developing relevant practical skills to prepare you for employment. For example, you’ll learn how to:

Manipulate, analyse and interpret financial and non-financial data.
Prepare financial reports.
Apply accounting principles and techniques to a range of business problems.
Use industry-standard software.
You’ll also learn how to appraise evidence, present and communicate clearly, work in a team and conduct independent research when required, such as when preparing a final-year project on a topic of your choice.

A UEL degree in accounting and finance with FinTech will leave you in an excellent position to gain work in a variety of business sectors.

Some students choose to continue their studies with a relevant postgraduate degree, such as the MSc International Accounting and Finance, MSc Professional Accounting, MSc Financial Management or MSc Risk Management.

Others obtain employment and go on to achieve their ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CPA Australia, IFA or AIA qualifications while working.

OPTIONAL PLACEMENT

This course offers the opportunity of year-long placement between years two and three. If you choose to take this option, you’ll spend your third year on a placement with a relevant company or organisation, adding valuable practical experience to your growing academic knowledge.

The extra placement year means it will take four years to complete your studies, instead of three.
