As with our aerospace technology with management degree, this broad-based aviation course has an emphasis on computer-aided engineering – including 3D modelling, computer-aided analysis, simulation and computer-aided manufacture. You’ll develop your practical skills in workshops and well-equipped laboratories, while your piloting skills are developed in the second half of the course through the University’s flight simulators and tuition at a nationally recognised flight centre in the UK or US, at an additional cost. You’ll also take part in group work, which will enable you to develop your team-working skills and improve your employability.

About this course
In common with our Aerospace Technology with Management degree, this course has an emphasis on computer-aided engineering including 3D modelling, computer-aided analysis simulation and computer-aided manufacture – combined with pilot studies. Your practical skills are developed in workshops and well-equipped laboratories while your piloting skills are developed in the second half of the course through the use of the University’s flight simulators and tuition at a nationally recognised flight centre, either in the UK or USA. There are additional fees for this but at a discounted rate.
There are employment opportunities in a variety of areas, ranging from airline operators and large aircraft manufacturers to small aerospace supply chain companies. Jobs vary from Logistics Manager, Quality Engineer, Analyst or Design & Technology Technician. The breadth and flexibility of this course will also open doors to careers in other branches of engineering, technology, computing or business.
You’ll find employment opportunities in a range of companies, from airline operators and aircraft manufacturers to small aerospace supply chain firms. Jobs can vary, from managing specialist laboratories and test facilities to the supervision of production lines and project management. It’s also the first step to becoming a professional pilot.

The BSc (Hons) Aerospace Technology with Pilot Studies course is accredited by RAes and IMechE and satisfies, in full, the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration for the cohort intakes from 2016 up to, and including, 2020.

Course programme
The School has a reputation for innovation in teaching and learning with most modules delivered through a combination of traditional face to face teaching and distance learning through the university's StudyNet web based facility. StudyNet allows students to access electronic learning resources, electronic discussion with staff and other students, and, for some modules, submit coursework 24/7 from anywhere in the world! With a heavy emphasis on Computer Aided Engineering, the school has a policy of using industrial standard software wherever possible. The School also operate an open access laboratory policy of when possible students doing experiments in their own time.
