If you want to become a commercial helicopter pilot, this course will prepare you for a successful career in the air transport industry. Unique to the UK Higher Education sector, this programme gives you the opportunity to obtain a university degree and a frozen ATPL (H) in just three years of full-time study - and at a lower cost than doing them separately.

Our practical training partner Heli Air Ltd offers modular training, including the ATPL (H)/IR ground school, turbine ratings, twin turbine ratings and the flight instructor rating. Courses can be completed in as little as 14 months, giving you the CPL(H) qualification. These additional fees are paid by module.

About this course

You’ll develop skills in leadership, adaptability and self-reliance. You’ll have studied operational and sustainable management, strategic concepts and theories. The course is designed to give you a thorough understanding of this complex profession.

Having finished this programme of study and all the associated air-training modules, you’ll be the proud owner of a Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence and a frozen ATPL(H). You’ll be fully qualified to find employment as a helicopter pilot and once you meet the relevant professional experience criteria, the ‘frozen’ prefix will be dropped.

You’ll also have developed a wider understanding of the airline business and be able to pursue a variety of different careers within the aviation industry.

For this course, you'll need at least two A-levels and a GCSE Maths and English at grade C. Our offers usually require a minimum of 96 UCAS points.

Mature students with non-standard qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Course programme

This module map provides a list of the modules that make up your course.

Each module is worth a specified number of credits (typically either 15 or 30 credits for undergraduate courses).
