Course Aims The importance of conservation and the environment is increasingly being recognised by many land based employers. This vocational course will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills in the practices required to play a full and rewarding part in the management and conservation of our natural heritage. Native species and local habitats are coming under increasing pressure as a result of human activity; this course will provide you with an understanding of the countryside and the pressure that our flora and fauna are facing. You will be introduced to concepts of biodiversity which will provide you with the skills to manage the environment in a sustainable way.
Course Content Conservation features include:
Minors:
Business Management The 'with Business Management' minor has been developed in response to a national shortage of business / management skills across all sectors, as highlighted by the government and also, crucially, by employers. A graduate in any area, who is also equipped with business / management skills relevant to their sector, will be in an excellent position to pursue a long and successful career.
The 'with Buisness Management' minor is made up of three components: Essential Business, Management Concepts and Practice and Applied Business.
Event Management This series of modules has been developed in response to the growth of event management as a subject in its own right, within the business discipline of operations management. There are an increasing number of companies who specialise in the planning and execution of events, while other organizations have teams who organize regular events to supplement the organization's revenues, as well as for promotional reasons. These events can vary in size, including local, regional, national and international events, the most prominent of which will be the 2012 Olympics in London. Events also vary tremendously in type, including business conferences and corporate events, sporting events, festivals, cultural and artistic events, celebrations, conventions and seasonal events.
Specialised modules for this Event Management Strand include; History, Development and Principles of Event Management, Planning and Running an Event, Types of Events and Contemporary Issues Within the Events Industry.
Tree Management The Minor aims to produce Graduates who:
To further underpin the student experience a week long Study Tour takes place during the first year. Study tours will enable the development of practical conservation skills, interpersonal and team working skills, communication skills and self management. Importantly both the Study Tour and Field Visits underpin academic work undertaken in the classroom and provide an opportunity to gain real experience in the field.
Career Prospects The breadth and flexibility of this course means our students go on to find jobs in a very wide range of areas. Past graduates have found employment in local authorities, wildlife trusts, countryside management as well as in educational, interpretative and consultancy positions.
