Course programme

BSc (Hons) Fashion Management has evolved from the well-known BA (Hons) Fashion Management course and is a key part of the Fashion Business School. The course is designed for students who are highly interested in business, business numeracy and quantitative skills and management within the context of the fashion industry, and is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This will give you the opportunity to graduate with a CMI Diploma level 5 in addition to your degree.

The fashion industry is complex, global and highly competitive, and covers the full spectrum from luxury to value end markets. It therefore requires graduates who can respond effectively to the constantly changing challenges and opportunities presented to the fashion industry. This full time course will equip you with the relevant professional, academic, communication and business skills to tackle these challenges and exploit any opportunities.

As part of the course BSc (Hons) Fashion Management students will develop the necessary skills to manipulate data and to evaluate, estimate and model a range of business problems, functions and phenomena. Interaction with industry is through a number of industry-led projects, and by meeting fashion experts who will share their ideas and opinions with you.

Recently we have welcomed in representatives from Yoox, Net a Porter, Wolverine, Oasis, Portas Company, Savile Menswear, Tiffany and Co, Deloitte, Joseph Wan from Harvey Nichols, a womenswear manager from Harrods, and Caroline Issa, Executive fashion Director of Tank Magazine, amongst others.

Over the course of the degree students have the opportunity to enter external prizes and competitions. Phoebe Ruscombe-King, a graduate from 2016, was awarded first prize in the National Dissertation Competition sponsored by Marks and Spencer and presented at the Annual Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry (ASBCI) conference. You will have the opportunity to attend relevant conferences such as the one arranged by the ASBCI and to visit a European fashion city on an optional trip in the first year.

Some of you may wish to take advantage of the option of doing the placement year between the second and final year of the course. This placement can be in the UK or overseas and can include a period of international study and work. Successful completion of this year will give an additional qualification, the Diploma in Professional Studies. Students have taken up recent placements with Debenhams, Polo Ralph Lauren, ASOS, River Island, Adobe, Levis, Hobbs, Fenwicks, Jimmy Choo and Dr Martens, as well as placements abroad in Europe, New York, Australia, India and Hong Kong. Throughout the course, in conjunction with LCF Careers, we support you with career planning sessions enabling you to make contacts and build relationships within the industry before graduation.

The course is based at High Holborn, adjacent to Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Other green spaces in the area include Gray’s Inn Gardens and Coram’s Fields. Situated nearby are Sir John Soane’s Museum in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, the Foundling Museum in Brunswick Square, and the British Museum in Bloomsbury. Markets worth visiting are the weekday lunchtime markets in Leather Lane and Exmouth Market. Lamb’s Conduit Street with its independent shops is a five minute walk, and Covent Garden, with its numerous shops, bars and restaurants, the Royal Opera House and many of the West End’s theatres, is a ten minute walk away.

Our John Prince’s Street site, with the library; the retail and leisure facilities of Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Regent Street, are merely two tube stops along the Central line.

The course team arrange a variety of optional trips and visits to supplement your studies. These trips are often local and where possible provided at nil or reduced cost. Opportunities for extended trips to fashion industry events or areas of interest are usually offered in the first and second year and where these trips involve accommodation and travel costs we aim to offer good value for students.
