This exciting and applied course has been endorsed through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences Undergraduate Endorsement Scheme (BUES), which awards endorsement to sport and exercise science degree courses that provide undergraduates with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills essential to enter into the profession.

Please note the first year of this course will be taught at Wolverhampton City Campus, followed by three years at Walsall Campus.

1. You will have access to our sport and exercise science laboratories that include cutting edge technology such as our 3D motion capture system, and our environment chamber

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to work with a range professional sport organisations, clubs and university sports teams to develop industry skills relevant to a career in sport and exercise science. Including opportunities with some of our partners such as Wolverhampton Wanders, Walsall FC and GB Judo.
3. Our employability modules enable you to explore sport and exercise science related career pathways and engage in career development planning that prepares you for graduate-level employment in a competitive industry
4. You will have the opportunity to transfer to a sandwich placement year*. Our sandwich placement option allows you to take a full-year work placement, which can be undertaken abroad. A number of students in our department have been successful in securing places on these schemes in countries such as Spain, France, Canada and the US
5. Teaching staff bring their internationally rated research expertise into their teaching. The department has research links across the world and students can progress to postgraduate study with these collaborators
* You should be aware that transferring to a sandwich placement year would result in a total course duration of 5 years. There would therefore be funding implications if you failed to complete the course within 5 years if you were studying on a full-time basis.

The purpose of this module is to provide the necessary foundational knowledge in the three main sport and exercise science disciplines; physiology, psychology and biomechanics as well as introductory topics in functional anatomy. You will initially study functional anatomy and use anatomical terminology as you describe human movement. The basic theory of biomechanics will be covered to include the kinematic and kinetic analysis of human movement. The physiological response to exercise will be considered with a focus on cardiorespiratory function and fuel for exercise. Additionally you will explore some of the key theory surrounding sport and exercise psychology and apply them to motivational theory and behaviour change.

This will occur within in a controlled laboratory and an applied field setting, enabling students to understand sport and exercise science support and develop the technical skills to help develop appropriate interventions for both Sport and Exercise populations.& nbsp;

This module aims to raise student& rsquo;s awareness of the prevalence of physical activity, physical inactivity, and sedentary behaviour and the strengths and limitations of the measurement tools used to obtain these data. Students will investigate current recommendations for physical activity and sedentary behaviour and explore the evidence supporting their formulation and efficacy. Students will examine the role of physical activity in the promotion of health and the prevention and management of chronic diseases and conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, sarcopenia, and frailty. In this module, we will describe and apply various behaviour change models (e.g., self-determination, social cognitive theory, theory of planned behaviour and the health belief model) aimed at improving physical activity adherence and reducing sedentary behaviour. In addition, students will learn how to apply exercise training principles to develop an exercise prescription for people at risk of or diagnosed with a specific chronic disease.
