  Please note this course is only available for year two (level five) entry.The BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching course aims to produce graduates who are both competent and confident coaches. You will learn a mixture of practical ‘teaching’ skills and theoretical scientific techniques, and how to apply them to your coaching practice. Throughout the course, you will explore global coaching issues, and be encouraged to utilise a range of learning, teaching and sports science technologies. You will be expected to coach both your peers and external participants, and will have opportunities to take National Governing Body (NGB) coaching awards. Placement modules are a leading feature of the course allowing you to gain hands-on experience and mentoring in an applied setting.

The module aims to develop your understanding of the sports industry and the position of coaching within it, both in the UK and internationally. You will also discuss cultural and societal processes involved in coaching and how recent developments, trends, and initiatives have affected the coaching workforce. You will have an opportunity to discuss and evaluate a range of research methods to collect and review data on the coaching workforce and will explore the workforce in a chosen setting.& nbsp;

You will describe how your previous experiences have provided a platform for you to study sport at university. Module content will focus on learning field tests and observational methods to assess movement analysis in the context of coaching. This will then transfer to observing coaches and athletes interact and applying sport science theory and research methods to this interaction. Finally, you will be required to develop this knowledge into an experiment and write up your findings using the scientific method.

The module aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the skills needed to manage sport coaching events. Such events may include tournaments, fundraisers and team events (team selection camp and end of year award ceremony). This module will help develop students skills focusing on policies, procedures, and practices involved in planning, organising, staffing and operations related to the sporting events listed above. Problem-based learning and case studies will be used to support students learning in this module.

This module will further your understanding of the link between sports science research and coaching practice through examining the processes that control movement and the ways in which task, individual and environmental constraints influence performance. This module will enable you to examine the application and integration of sport sciences in a sports coaching context focusing on a number of differing sports. This will develop your understanding of interdisciplinary concepts and enable you to select and apply your knowledge in response to various coaching problems.& nbsp;You will be able to conduct effective needs analysis and related field assessments as well as develop coaching interventions.

It is expected that this knowledge construction will allow you to be able to be a leader in the field of sports coaching – carving out an area of expertise and developing your reputation in sports coaching

You will develop your identity as a professional in your field, including a set of values, skills, and attributes required for graduate employment. Both during and following your placement, you will reflect on your learning and heightened self-awareness of areas for further development.
