Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)

September 2007 marked the start of far-reaching changes for all new staff in the Lifelong Learning sector whose main role is teaching, training or tutoring.

As a result of these changes, all new staff fulfilling these roles in the FE sector are now legally required to work towards gaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) status.

This new requirement is part of the Government’s wider initiative to develop a highly qualified and professional education workforce through reforms in training, qualifications and continuing professional development for those working within the entire Lifelong Learning and Skills sector.

To help achieve the goal of a highly trained education workforce, Edexcel has launched a comprehensive series of qualifications designed for teachers, tutors, trainers, instructors and lecturers in the Lifelong

Learning sector.
