Course programme

Course Description
This course gives you the opportunity to develop an experimental and creative approach to fashion design work and gain a solid foundation in technical skills.
It covers the following subjects: drawing, illustration, research, design, pattern cutting and garment making- the larger part of the course being devoted to drawing and design.

What background and qualifications do you need to join?
You don't need any formal qualifications to join this course. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in fashion and a high level of commitment. Some candidates may have taken short courses in art and design.


What does the course lead to?
The BTEC Introduction to Fashion course provides a solid foundation for progression onto Fashion Portfolio Preparation Level 2 and BTEC National Diploma in Fashion.

What are the facilities and equipment like?
The classroom is equipped with sewing machines and pattern cutting tables for students to learn techniques and processes. Trips to galleries, exhibitions and museums extend classroom facilities and give students a broader look at the world of fashion.

How much should I study outside class?
Between 4 to 6 hours per week

How is the course assessed?
The course comprises of 4 assessed units. Work will be assessed at the end of each unit. Practical work is assessed through performance, throughout the course.

What books and equipment do I need?
You will need basic art materials and pattern cutting equipment. Some items can be purchased at the college. The tutor will discuss course materials and books with you on the first day of class.
